This coffee table looks ordinary, but it turns into a very cool thing when the lights come on!

During school work hours (now called “Technology” in Russia), from time to time there is an opportunity to surprise their parents with homemade gifts for the New Year or other holiday. But instead of postcards or other handicrafts made from clay or wood, this teenager from the United States made an impressive coffee table! He saw similar tables on sale for several thousand dollars and wanted to create his own, with the original design.

The table top consists of two components. A simple wooden frame and a special mirror that transmits light only on one side. Perhaps you have already seen this in American detectives, so often interrogation rooms are equipped, judging by the films. We have this mirror called Mirror-spy or in a scientific way Mirror Gesell.

At the bottom of the table is a specially designed frame, which was later painted black.

In addition to this internal frame, there is a base that serves as a support for all of the above.

One of the legs of the table was drilled for the cable with which all the electrics will be connected.

An ordinary mirror is installed at the bottom of the inner frame (with the reflecting part inwards, ie upwards). In the photo below, this frame is painted black.

The space between the outer and inner frames are laid wires and power supply necessary to power the LED strip.

The LED tape is glued to the side surface of the inner frame, as shown in the photo. You can use hot melt adhesive if your LED strip is not self-adhesive.

Finished interior with a conventional mirror, LED strip and wires. It is still difficult to imagine what the table will look like at the end and what the effect will be.

In the next step, the upper or outer frame is installed. However, as you can see from the opening in the center, something is missing ...

Not enough mirror spy! It was cut to the desired size and inserted into the cover of the table, forming a single smooth surface.

In the off state, this is a regular table with a glass surface, but the included electric lights demonstrate the whole zest of this project!

Mirror spy was laid mirror side down. Thus, the light is reflected in the lower ordinary mirror, then reflected in the upper (special) and so many times. Due to this, the effect is infinity! Perhaps you have already observed a similar effect using two mirrors in the bathroom or hallway.

The master received a well-deserved reward for his unusual table with the effect of infinity and is justly proud of it. Work on it took 4 months.

There are plenty of examples of the use of the effect of infinity obtained with the help of mirrors.
